SEATTLE TOWN HALL FORUM PANEL
From left: John King, WPC Policy Committee Chair; WA Rep. Mark Miloscia; AZ Sen. Ed Ableser, WA Sen.-elect Eric Oemig;
WA Rep. Shay Schual-Berke; Keynote Speaker David Sirota; Emcee Ken Alhadeff; WA Sen. Jim Kastama; MN Rep. Linda Valentino.
WPC President Terry Sullivan and Emcee Ken Alhadeff speak of their commitment to a better political system, and introduce our panel.
David Sirota (right) gestures towards the legislators as examples of heroes: they put their careers on the line to support public campaign finance because it's the right thing to do. Above: WA legislators Rep. Mark Miloscia, Sen. Jim Kastama, Sen.-Elect Eric Oemig, and Rep. Shay Schual-Berke

Sirota states that other progressive goals, like universal healthcare and education, won't happen without campaign finance reform. This, he says, is not even on the radar of Washington D.C. legislators, who excel at the present system, so the initative for public finance must come from the states.

Sen. Ed Ableser of Arizona admits he's having a hard time adjusting to the Seattle January climate.
Public campaigns work in Arizona, which has elected a clean money governor, Janet Napolitano.

Rep. Linda Valentino of Maine describes the relief of the clean elections candidates,
knowing they can spend their valuable time meeting voters instead of raising funds.

Rep. Mark Miloscia and Sen. Jim Kastama are concerned that the present system may
compromise the integrity of themselves and fellow legislators, despite good intentions.

Volunteers greeted Town Hall guests and sold
buttons. Above, Jackie Minchew.
