Guest
speaker
Professor David Domke
of the University of Washington
Professor
David
Domke's theme was: "Hope and America in 2008."
As
an expert in political communications, Professor Domke explored the
theme of hope, and suggested how it relates to the success of Barack
Obama in the recent Democratic primary and President Ronald Reagan
in a previous era.

Volunteer
of the Year: Rebecca Lamb
Rebecca
Lamb stepped forward early in 2007 to lead a disciplined band of WPC
supporters in Spokane, working tirelessly as volunteers, despite full-time
jobs. Rebecca
and her group arranged workshops for speakers, a well-attended public
forum at Gonzaga University, and outreach events throughout greater
Spokane, thereby building our Spokane membership base to nearly 700
in just over a year.

Leadership
in Public Service: Speaker Frank Chopp
Speaker
Frank Chopp provided leadership to move the Local Option bill through
the House twice! during a short session year when floor
time was valuable.
With grassroots
support but also facing opposition, Speaker Chopps leadership
ensured passage of this bill, ending a 16-year ban imposed by Initiative
134 and making it possible for cities and counties once again to establish
public funding of local campaigns, with voter support.
