WPC's
2007 Awards Banquet was a tremendous success! The Awards Banquet celebrated our clean campaigns community, heaped praise upon deserving efforts, and reinforced our motivation to continue on the road to a government of, by, and for the people. If we want success in bringing publicly funded
campaigns to Washington State, we should consider how
to best
work with the powerful groups that will be Donnelly(right) is co-author of Are Elections for Sale? and Public Campaign Action Fund's National Campaigns Director. PCA holds elected officials accountable for the special favors they do for their political contributors. He also managed two successful "Clean Elections" initiative campaigns — in Maine and in Arizona. David made a point of reminding us how small a percentage of U.S. citizens participate in the electoral process. Of that percentage, far fewer contribute sizeable sums to the candidate of their choice. Those big donors are typically white, affluent, business-oriented, and more conservative than average — and of course they have more clout. | |
